OUR MISSION:
Carne Viva Dance Theatre is committed to culture as liberation, and our bodies as an act of rebellion. We are devoted to making work for the community of queer and trans BIPOC. Aiming to connect, educate, and empower our community.
Honoring our collective experiences and cultures as we gather to liberate our bodies as joy becomes an act of rebellion. Focused on representing the true essence of its members through multidisciplinary practices that are fueled by the frustrations of the world around us whose goal has been to colonize our bodies, land, and ways of embracing our ancestral genetic memories. There is urgency for us to disrupt and dismantle these spaces. Allowing pleasure and radical joy to inhabit la comunidad y nuestra cultura, and make work that feels raw and shakes us to its core beginning with us as creatives. We are deep believers that practice forms the community, and community forms the practice. Being an extension of our community, our work is a direct threshold of those whose shoulders we stand on, who we are, and those of whose future we are helping to shape.

CARNE VIVA is a collective of vibrant and raw radical movers, activists, and teaching artists based in Lenape Land while traveling through the cities of Miami and New York. We create playful, erotic, and intimate works for the community of queer BIPOC to address the issues of society through our work. Our work and process as artists and humans is to decolonize the body and to decolonize dance. We create intimate, erotic, and playful works that honor our collective stories, and celebrate our identities. We collide our Afro-Cuban influences, street dance, and Modern improvisational practices to cultivate a compelling kaleidoscope of rhythm, movement, and storytelling to pull you into the next dimension through dance, theatre, text, and original sounds to awaken our audiences. Our mission is to create social change and spark conversation throughout the country. Queerness, latinidad, otherness, community, cultura, rebellion, and moving to dismantle the outdated policing of our bodies. Our collaborators are made up from all over the world, as we say we are " de aqui, y de alla" meaning from here, and from there, and our work is for everyone near and far.
